Wedding Bells!~

Congratulations to JX and HF on their customary marriage!

Happy for this pair of high-school sweet hearts.
Always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to see couples who have been together since school to walk down the aisle together :)

Christmas is an occassion to EAT!

It is a good occasion/excuse to meet up, pig out, gossip and take photos. The food was good (nice big turkey)plus our first time glazing a ham with orange and ginger marmalade turned out not so bad after all. :)

Hens' Night!

the 2 brides-t0-be happy(?!) after the tasks are done
at the roof top bar, with our pointy pose!
With 2 of our friends getting hitched 2 weeks apart in Dec and Jan a surprise party for Angela and Hui Fang was planned at the Screening Room at Ann Siang Road to celebrate the 2 very happy brides-to-be remaining Bachelorette status!

Thanks to HQ, the ambiance was really sweet, we even had custom made name place cards, napkin holders, bunny chocolates, strawberry yam yam AND status tags!

The rack of lambs (they have a portion for 2) is quite yummy but i thought they could be more creative with their sauces

Spicy & Sweet Birthdays

Met the girls (and the guys) for dinner to celebrate HQ, stoopid woman and my birthdays.

We had MaLa hotpot at Chong Qing Huo Guo @ Tanglin Shopping Centre (the one with alot of carpet shops) next to St.Regis. I think it must had been my first time having mala (the name mala arising from the ma jiao spice Sichuenese loves so much) hotpot since returning from Beijing.

I was abit disappointed 'cause the taste was obviously custom made to suit local tastebuds. The ma wei (or numbing feeling that is supposed to numb-sense the mouth for hours) was too mild to qualify as a true-blue Sicheunese favourite.

But thanks gals for the dinner, had a wonderful time. Oh and the YUMMY birthday fruit tart!
looks so festive eh! :)

The Thai Thing

The gals, together with the help of zzz and JC, recreated the Thai menu which we learn at Bangkok in '07.

Have to confess that we engaged the help of some pretty reliable ready-made paste. Not that the end result was any less palatable. We still managed to enjoy a FEAST, just like in Bangkok

Menu: Tom Yam fish soup, green pork curry, mayo wasabi eggs, double cheese salad, chicken salad, baked chicken with vegetables, grilled vegetables/shrimp skewers, cheesecake, chin chow with Nata De Coco, mixed mock tails and strawberry flavored champagne.

Looks like alot? It was. But not to fret, we finished all of the food, thanks to the gals who very nicely offered to takeaway some leftovers.

Was a good thing we did this together, only lament that our kitchen has limited working space for a more comfortable cooking experience. (",)

ColBar & The Daily Scoop

Met the girls at ColBar @ Wessex Estate.

Charming little restaurant in an old colonial house. Menu is alright, mainly western although there are a few Chinese items too. Will appeal to those who reminisces their childhood days spend at those old shop-houses where plenty of such old school restaurants once operated.

Just don't expect any restaurant fare. Its really quite basic with sides originating from canned beans and mushrooms. Some of us probably can whip up a similar fare at home. Those who are interested to go are advised to Google map this place first. It is U.L.U (aka very far away from civilisation) described at best. Almost like a pre-developed Dempsey, you probably can't find your way there easily.

Well, highlight of the day as usual, came at dessert. I finally tasted The Daily Scoop at Sunset Way. We tried a total of 8 flavors between the 4 of us. I had jack fruit (which stoopid woman and HQ thought tasted funny) and brandied figs and honey but loved what the peanut butter i snitched from stoopid woman reminded me of the peanut butter milkshake i so miss at GrandMa's Kitchen in BJ!

Good Food, Friends, Music

Mellben Crabs @ Toa Payoh ended up as a good spot for dinner and to catch up with friends.

A very hearty meal of butter beehoon crabs + chilli crabs, a whole lot of other sinful food, and our futile resistance to durians (so conveniently located near us) later, we slowly digsested the food with the accompaniment of a busker uncle whose talented repertoire ranges from ABC-Cantonese-Hokkien-Eagles songs. We couldn't help but be won over by his professionalism and skills! He even had adults glued to him and children prancing around as he sang along.

That's what good busking can be about. The ability to make fun, music while keeping the change rolling in. Well, at least that's what i think. Some buskers in Singapore just do not make the cut.
